Charcot reconstruction with external fixation
This is a complex reconstruction of a diabetic Charcot ankle. She had a 2 yr history of this recurrent ulcer and had failed many operative and non-operative treatments. As a limb salvage procedure, a major reconstruction with a ring fixator (Taylor Spatial Frame) and multiple fusions was undertaken. This was a 7 hour surgery requiring many long months of recovery. Her post-op pictures are taken 3 months from the start of the reconstruction. Her wound has almost completely healed. Her foot is now back under her leg and she will be able to wear an off the shelf shoe. She has minimal swelling. No pain. Previously she was in a custom boot (CROW walker). |
